CZECH VICTORY

Czech Republic has won the Federation cup by defeating Serbia in the final. Lucie Safarova secured the victory of Czech Republic by defeating Jelena Jankovic in the final singles match. Safarova didn’t have to toil hard to defeat Jankovic. The Czech player was on fire. She played with extreme dominance and let Jankovic win only a couple of games in the entire match.

Safarova was off to a glorious start in the match. She broke Jankovic’s service in the very first game of the first set. She got another breakthrough in the third game. At the end of the fourth game, Safarova was ahead by 4-0 and Jankovic was under huge pressure. The Serbian player held her service in the fifth game, but, that was the only game to be won by her in the opening set. Safarova won the next couple of games and ran away with the set.

In the second set, both the players held their service in the first couple of games and it seemed that the second set is going to be closer than the first one, but, that wasn’t the case to be. The second set proved to be one sided as well. The last five games were won by Safarova and Jankovic lost the second consecutive set by the same margin of 6-1.

Safarova looked ecstatic in the post match interview.  The Czech player said, “It’s certainly one of the biggest victories of my career. I just can’t express my happiness at the moment. Putting up such a performance in front of the home crowd is really satisfactory.”

“It’s a team effort. Each and every member of the team should be credited. We were under huge pressure when we were down by 0-2, but, the way we came back was really remarkable.
